You know the feeling you get when you make a new change to your appearance? It may be something small like a new haircut but, holy crap… you walk out of that salon like you are owning a runway. Work it. You’re a whole new person regardless of the dirty, oily, slicked down hair you tried to hide when you ran inside just an hour earlier. It’s all a distant memory. You don’t even know who that person was, but it sure as hell wasn’t you.
I’m like that with running clothes. For some reason, when I pull on new clothes and head out, I feel legit. I’m no longer a 5k racer drawing attention because I’m making an awkward and squinty duck face due to sweat dripping into my eyes and not being able to breathe. People are staring at me and whispering because I’m a pro. They are so impressed they can’t look away. I can win marathons, triathlons, shit… maybe I could take on Usain Bolt in the next Olympics. The clothes make me confident, motivated, and when I put them on I’m convinced I look like I’ve lost 10 pounds. Who doesn’t want to look 10 pounds lighter? Viva la compression pants.
Or, maybe you actually have lost 10 pounds before. The first time you walk by a mirror and catch a glimpse of yourself at a new angle is like meeting a stranger. You stop. Lift your shirt up to see a little better. Suck in. Flex your arms. Twist around to see your glutes. Well, hello you sexy bitch. Should you try to find a modeling agency? Make a foray into porn? You know you would be successful at either because your confidence is renewed and you’re ready to share your gift with the world. You sexy beast, you.
Happiness and confidence… they are just a state of mind, people. Own it and get on with your bad self.
(PS- I’m not ashamed to admit I’m the lunatic in all of these examples)
I thought I looked damn good in my 5k yesterday…
Were you wearing new clothes? Haha 🙂
thanks for making me laugh and keep doing whatever you are doing
Thank you 🙂
Yes! It really is a state of mind. Act like you own the room and you will start to feel differently and people will react to you differently.
There is a story that I think Shirley McLaine told on a talk show years ago about how she walked down Rodeo Blvd two times. Once she walked down feeling and acting like herself.-‘I’m a famous actress.’ She was immediately recognized and stopped.
The second time she walked down as someone else. She acted like she was not a famous actress and no one stopped her.
There are all kinds of signals we give that we aren’t even aware of giving when we feel a certain way. Its so important!
Interesting! I’ve never heard that story before, but I totally believe it. It makes a world of difference
Listen, I was trying very hard to finally convince myself the the clothes do not make the runner but you’re going to turn me into a gear head. 😉
Haha. The clothes definitely help
I used to go to a gym and I always wore the most pathetic oldest clothes I could possibly find. I didn’t even know gym fashion was a thing. Oh well…I’m a sexy beast anyway…right??
Yes. The sexiest beast of all lol
Awwwe…you really think so?? (while preening in the mirror, ha, ha)
There is so much awesomeness and truth to this post! I think I’ll wear my new running shorts today when I go. Camel toe be damned!
Woo. You should still be cautious of camel toe. Unless you don’t mind creeps staring. If you’re okay with the stares…. Own that camel toe proudly haha
Lol! It’s not too bad in these shorts. A long shirt usually helps too:)
Love this! I actually wrote a post a couple weeks ago about how buying new workout clothes can actually help you get fit. Looking killer is a big step to feeling killer!
It’s so true. It makes a world of difference
Reblogged this on ClassHopper and commented:
I love this blogger’s writing. This is so true. How you feel is everything.
Bravo! Women need to be more positive about how they look no matter what they are wearing. It’s all about self confidence, I agree, and nothing boosts your confidence level like a new outfit or an extra coat of mascara. 😊
100% agree about women and being more positive. In this culture, it’s hard not to be hard on yourself. Clothes, mascara, whatever it is (even if it’s just a material object) I think you should treat yourself and add some pep in your step 🙂
I am so with you on this post – when I see myself in the mirror at the gym in my tiny shorts and bra top I think f***k you’re hot why aren’t you having sex? I practically want to f***k myself! Then I think “well I can’t actually have a man to stay the night as they might bump into the multiple miniature serial killers in a) my laundry basket, b) my box of Tampax, c) my deep freeze. I found at least a hundred little green ones in there – which my cleaner claimed was a packet of frozen peas….http://bit.ly/1ER5cLY
Your comment is hysterical. Thanks for cracking me up!
Haha I wish I had that confidence! I don’t think I’ve ever looked in the mirror and wanted to fuck myself. Would be a great feeling lol
I love it. I’ll have to buy some new workout clothes and see if I feel better about my post-Christmas, fudge-eating body!
It works! But…. Chocolate is awesome and I’m sure the fudge was worth it lol
Nice workout clothes do help (and who doesn’t want cute clothes?) But the closest I get to this feeling is AFTER the workout is done. I wish I could bottle that and make it last all day!
Totally agree. It’s a great feeling. I love when my muscles are dead and go numb. Kinda weird, but whatever,
Yes, I agree too! One of the best feelings, post-workout when you feel like you won’t be able to move normally for another two days, but at the same time feel like you’re invincible
It’s amazing, right? Ah…. lol
Laugh out loud funny!
Woo thanks 🙂
If only my work out schedule was equivalent to the number of compression and yoga pants I own.
Haha hey. They are comfy and make you feel good either way :). I wear them more often than I workout too
I’ve always wondered how I would’ve done in the porno industry.
Same. That’s something that can’t be unseen, though. Don’t know if I want to venture down that road
True. I even had a name all picked out….Candy Apples.
Hahaha I knew that and she owned it in all those examples
Hell yeah 🙂
Funny! I love it!
Thanks Ginny 🙂
Hahaha I love it! Xoxoxo.
Thank you 😀
Getting a new do or slipping into something flattering is a great pick-me-up and can even be empowering. I have a favorite jacket I always wear on interviews and important meetings because it instills such self-confidence.
Agreed 🙂 I have a pair of jeans that have the same effect lol
I’m always proud of being a lunatic, so I shall call you friend. But I will NOT go jogging with you. I will ride my horsie next to you and let her jog while I laugh at you. That’s as far as my hand extends in friendship.
This is the beginning of the best friendship I’ve ever had lol
Having crazy on your side usually gives you a bit of an edge…..at least in fights. (I heard from a friend.)
I think you’re right. I mean… I think your friend is right lol
🙂
confidence = sexy
Exactly.
It’s all how you look at things. I have recently discovered that I am a size 8, extra fat.
Size 8 is a great size!
The title reminded me of an incident that a colleague of mine recounted. She was called by her son’s teacher at school to attend some parent teacher meet and the teacher told the friend of mine that your son said “my father is a sexy beast because my mom calls him a sexy beast” . The teacher and my friend shared a great laugh !
Haha that’s hilarious! Kids will repeat anything 🙂
Definitely a state of mind. I know if I walk into a zumba class and I’n wearing new gear I move better, yea, well I like to think that anyway!
